Nothing says wealth like Beverly Hills

Known the world over as one of the planet’s most exclusive neighborhoods, Beverly Hills is about as contrasted from East LA and Boyle Heights as it gets. And whereas in those neighborhoods I had a couple conversations and at times walked through crowds of people, the only crowds I saw in my walk from this point all the way to Pacific Palisades was this crowd of tourists that jumped out of a tour van to take this obligatory photo of the Beverly Hills sign.

It was a moment of serendipity for me, in that, I typically don’t intentionally take touristy photos unless I really am in tourist mode. This was definitely not a tourist moment for me. I just happened to be loading a new roll of film and contemplating how I was going to frame the sign in order to help tell this story when all of a sudden this van pulled up and gave me the perfect twist in my plot to not be a tourist.

Still, so many people are drawn to this city. It is beautiful. It is very, very green. There are more trees here than any other part of the walk thus far. But it is also boring unless you brought your dog with you.

Way before border walls were trending, people figured out other creative ways to keep people out… like hedge walls.

One trick of the trade when shooting water is to use a very fast shutter speed in order to freeze it in motion. This is also often used in sports photography. This image was shot with 1/500th of a second.
